School Reading Challenge – One Thousand Books in One Hundred Days – 1st November 2018 – 10thJanuary 2019
Straight after half-term we will be launching our reading challenge to all the children and staff in the school to read 1000 books over a 100 day period, and continue reading beyond that point. We have been preparing for the launch by ordering lots of lovely new books and ‘weeding out’ some tatty old books from our school shelves. Please support our challenge by encouraging the children to read at home, praising them for their reading (you could offer them a little incentive if they are reluctant readers) and recording their reading in their Reading Records. We will be introducing little prizes and certificates for children who move up a level in their reading.
On the first day after half term we will be having a visit from the Author J S Landor, she will talk to children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 about being an author, and her book ‘The Mirror of Pharos’. The children will be able to buy signed copies of the book for £7.99 (cash only, change will be given) on the day.
All the children will visit the Shaftesbury Library during the week after half term, we will be asking for some parent helpers to come with each class please. We hope that the Library visits and the Reading Challenge will encourage even more families to use the Library regularly.
Please make reading a highly valued part of your family life, so that all the children can become confident and enthusiastic life-long readers
